Where There is Light

The need to recalibrate, reflect, and center mental wellness after uncertain years drove artist Tamara Shogaolu to develop WHERE THERE IS LIGHT. Inspired by the practice of forest bathing and by the Panamanian rainforest, WHERE THERE IS LIGHT is an interactive installation that merges mental wellness with nature through technology by allowing visitors to immerse themselves in a rainforest.

Web Interactive

The web interactive version of Un(re)solved allows audiences to navigate through a virtual world that is visually inspired by the patterns of quilting and the imagery of trees. Using a computer and browser, their cursor is transformed into a symbolic source of light. They can use this to explore the space and listen to the stories of victims of racist killings. The microphone-enabled version of the experience requires users to speak each person’s name in order to hear their story.

The UN(RE)SOLVED web interactive is part of a multi-platform investigation that examines the FBI’s efforts to investigate over 100 racially motivated murders, while illuminating stories of those still seeking justice. Collaborating with PBS FRONTLINE, Ado Ato Pictures led the creative vision on the installation.
