CANTO NEGRO POR LA LUZ

CANTO NEGRO POR LA LUZ

A personal journey into Black Civil Rights movements in Ecuador.

A personal journey into Black Civil Rights movements in Ecuador.

A personal journey into Black Civil Rights movements in Ecuador.

Reflecting on her early encounters with racism, director Tamara Shogaolu explores black consciousness in Ecuador.

While talking to locals and learning about their experiences, she takes us on a journey across the regions of Esmeraldas, Guayaquil, Quito, and Valle del Chota. Canto Negro por la Luz weaves together interviews, archival footage and animation to explore the ongoing and complicated conversation around race.

Simple questions—such as, "Where do we come from?" "Who are we?" and "Where are we going?"—can still have complicated answers.

Where There is Light

The need to recalibrate, reflect, and center mental wellness after uncertain years drove artist Tamara Shogaolu to develop WHERE THERE IS LIGHT. Inspired by the practice of forest bathing and by the Panamanian rainforest, WHERE THERE IS LIGHT is an interactive installation that merges mental wellness with nature through technology by allowing visitors to immerse themselves in a rainforest.
